Changes in the Road Ahead

  • Significant changes are scheduled to occur to the Child In Need of Care System as of July 1, 2005. Therefore it's imperative that Therapists/Mental Health Professionals, Drug/Alcohol Providers, Attorneys, Case Managers, Social Workers, School/Education Personnel, Health/Medical Providers, Community Social Services Providers and the various other agencies, programs, and organizations who work with the Child In Need of Care System understand the significant changes which are being made.

  • Current contractors of Sedgwick County (Region 5) are UMY for Foster Care, KCSL for Adoption and DCCCA for Family Preservation Services. These agencies will remain contracted with SRS as Child Welfare Community Based Services Providers, however the roles of each of these agencies will change significantly. There are also changes being made in terminology, who provides foster care and adoption case management, the role of foster parents, and the outcomes which must be achieved by each of the contracted providers.

Please view the "Moving Forward Into The New World" presentation. This presentation was given at the June 2005 Changes training sessions in Wichita, KS. This presentation is very helpful in identifying changes in the contracts that SRS implemented on July 1, 2005 with their private contractors. Many thanks to Sandra at Youthville for making this available to our organization.
